Meet the Artist

Michael Collins is an artist whose journey into the world of art began from a young age. Growing up with a fascination for the Renaissance, Michael traveled to Rome as a child, where he first encountered the masterpieces of that remarkable era. This experience ignited his passion for art, leading him to create master copies of Renaissance works in watercolor, chalk, and clay as he sought to capture the essence of the human form and emotion.

Once at University, he chose an academic path, pursuing a degree in Biology. This scientific background enriched his understanding of structure and form, allowing him to approach art with a distinct perspective. It was during his college years that Michael rediscovered his passion for art, reigniting the creativity he had embraced in childhood. The interplay between science and art became a source of inspiration, propelling him to delve deeper into the visual arts.

After college, Michael sought to refine his craft further by studying under renowned portrait artist Stephen Bauman. His mentorship provided him with invaluable techniques and insights, which he has integrated into his evolving artistic practice. He draws from a rich tapestry of influences, particularly the teachings of Russian academic traditions and the principles of Western classicism and naturalism. These styles resonate deeply with him, allowing him to create works that reflect both beauty and a profound understanding of the human experience.

He continues today to work on his emotive portraits and captivating compositions that bridge the gap between classical techniques and contemporary expression. His work invites viewers to engage with the subject on a personal level, evoking a sense of connection and introspection. As he continues to evolve as an artist, Michael remains dedicated to exploring the intersection of art and science, crafting pieces that celebrate the complexity of life and the beauty of the human form.
